Deforestation increases CO²

Did you know that deforestation decreases CO² adaption? Probably you did.

But did you know that deforestation not only leads to less absorption of CO², but it even increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Research even tells us that the loss of forest is covering 20% of the total carbon dioxide emissions in the world.

” When land is cleared for timber and farms, there are fewer trees to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by photosynthesis. Also, if the fallen trees are burned or left to rot, additional carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.” (source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/ocr_gateway_pre_2011/energy_home/6_stable_earth3.shtml )
